Wednesday, April 30, 2008

British Sausage Week, the annual celebration of the great British banger, returns for its 11th year in 2008 running from 3 to 9 November.

More details of the activity planned to support British Sausage Week in 2008 will be announced in the coming months, but in the meantime BPEX Limited wants caterers to make a note of the date in their diaries.

BPEX Ltd foodservice trade manager Tony Goodger said: “Caterers play a vital role in making British Sausage Week a resounding success. In fact, the Week has become an extremely popular and celebrated event in the catering calendar, particularly amongst schools and in the pub trade.”

Traditionally, British Sausage Week presents chefs, restaurateurs and foodservice operators with the opportunity to boost sales of sausages in their establishments. Involvement in the week varies from sourcing and adding specialist varieties of sausage to the menu, having a dedicated sausage & mash night, to competitions and themed events - all of which generate massive interest in sausages and get sales sizzling!

2007 marked the tenth anniversary of British Sausage Week with operators and owners of cafés, restaurants, pubs and school, college and workplace canteens up and down the country lending their support in making it the best year yet. Fronted by Phil Tufnell, activity throughout the week helped put sausages in the media spotlight generating a staggering £9.3 million of coverage. Research showed that retail sausage sales for the duration of British Sausage Week 2007 reached nearly £10.5 million and soared to over £11million in the week that followed making it a resounding success.

Goodger added: “To achieve the success of 2007 again this year, we’ll be asking for your support once again. So make sure the dates are in your diary and look out for more news on the plans to celebrate the week in 2008 and how you can get involved.”
