WORCESTER PUB SERVES UP BRITAIN’S BEST PUB COOKED BREAKFAST!

Tuesday, February 03, 2009

It’s official – the best pub cooked breakfast in the country is dished up by the team at The Talbot at Knightwick.

The pub has been awarded the coveted title by BPEX, following a tense competition in which participating pubs across the UK were mystery judged.

Picking up the highest score by an eight per cent margin, the judges felt that The Talbot served up a perfect example of a cooked breakfast, along with some added extras.

Tony Goodger, BPEX foodservice trade manager, said: “The breakfast was beautifully cooked and presented, and served by polite staff in less than ten minutes despite being freshly cooked to order.

“The menu clearly highlighted their passion for using locally produced, quality ingredients, many of which are sourced directly from local farms. The bacon and sausage in particular were excellent; a thickly sliced rasher of dry salted, air dried bacon while the sausage was perfect for breakfast – not too coarse and not too smooth, with a hint of herb and pepper that allows the flavour to come through but doesn’t dominate the plate.”

There was also a range of homemade offerings including black pudding, bread and preserves. The cooked breakfast also boasts a choice of mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, kidney, fried bread, fried potatoes and free range egg (offered scrambled, poached or boiled); in short, a real satisfying and tasty plateful that will be sure to set customers up for the day!

Annie Clift is a real believer in breakfast being the most important meal of the day and with guests staying overnight to explore the surrounding countryside nothing keeps them going better than a traditional and hearty cooked breakfast. She says: “We put a lot of effort into our breakfasts and use the finest ingredients; from locally sourced sausages and bacon from free range pigs as well as making our very own black pudding.

“This award means a lot to us, particularly in the current climate, not just to build recognition for the business but also to reward our very hardworking and loyal staff.”
