A young pupil at Brooklands Primary School in Long Eaton has won first prize in a national competition that celebrated British Sausage Week 2008 (3-9 November).
Ten year old Frazer Davies was chosen as the winner of the Key Stage 2 competition from nearly 25,000 entries and was awarded with his prizes by British Sausage Week mascot ‘Mr Sausage’.
Frazer successfully completed a sausage-themed word search and came up with a creative sentence about why he likes to eat sausages. His neat and imaginative entry earned Frazer a £100 voucher of choice and a microscope for the school, as well as a framed certificate, medal and a £100 cheque to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust – the lead charity for British Sausage Week.
Key Stage 1 pupils were also included in the competition, which challenged them to colour in a picture of Mr Sausage and his family - and drew in more than 32,500 entries.
Tony Goodger, BPEX foodservice trade manager said: “The schools competition is always very popular but this year was a phenomenal success with a total of 57,248 entries, so many congratulations go to Frazer for producing such a wonderful entry.
“British Sausage Week celebrates the fact that sausages can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet – in and out of school – and this competition demonstrates that they really are much loved by the nation’s youngsters.”
Mr Thorpe, head teacher of Brooklands Primary School said: “This was a great occasion for Frazer – in fact for all of the children that got to meet Mr Sausage. The competition was great fun; we are delighted for Frazer and look forward to making good use of the microscope.”
The £100 donation to the CF Trust will support their vital work to help youngsters with this life threatening disease, about 80 of whom are in the region.
